V1.2 of Discovery, our Highly Available Hypervisor has just been released to general availability. Over the next few hours, your instance control panel will update to reflect the new version. V1.2 includes feature updates, new Operating System images and stability fixes.
What’s New?
Automatic Network Configuration
Since we introduced Discovery we have been asked to provide a way of configuring additional IPs and Subnets automatically. In v1.2 you can now use the “Reconfigure Network” option in your control panel to automatically deploy additional IPs and subnets. You can also use this feature to reset the server’s networking back to its defaults. Great if you ever make a mistake and don’t want to use the NoVNC or xTerm consoles to manually find and fix the problem.
Seamless Installs Via ISO
We provide templates for all the latest versions of the most popular distributions like Ubuntu and Debian. We also provide the base ISO files we use to create these templates. These are the default distributions before we add any software to them. It’s possible to use these to install and reinstall instances but you had to manually mount them in a CD-ROM drive. Now you can reinstall from any ISO. Just select the ISO then open the NoVNC console to finish the installation. Our network is DHCP compatible and the installation media will configure the network settings from our DHCP servers.

Configure Power Tasks
From the control panel, you can now configure power tasks on your instances. You can shutdown an instance at a specific time and then boot it at another configured time. You can also now schedule reboots of instances automatically.
Resource Notifications
To enable users to monitor services effectively you can now configure resource notifications. Notifications can be configured based on RAM, CPU and Link utilization. Allowing you to respond to spikes in resource usage and assign further resources if required.
Root Access and New Images & ISOs
We’re now enabling root access on all instances in all locations automatically. The following new images are being pushed out to the entire network. These will appear in all locations over the next few hours and days.
Rocky Linux 8 (OS Template & ISO)
Rocky Linux 9 (ISO)
Debian 12 LTS (OS Template (DHCP only) & ISO)
Ubuntu 23 Desktop (ISO)
Ubuntu 23 Server (ISO)
Technical Remediation
The following remediation work has been included in V1.2.
- Fixed “Master Disk Not Found” error that could appear while attempting to restore an Instance from a backup.
- Resolved slow loading of backups and firewalls lists.
- Resolved problems with firewall rules not being restored.
- Adjusted display of the noVNC console window to fit chosen OS resolution.
